MEET THE BOARD
ALL MEETINGS ARE HELD ON THE 4TH MONDAY OF EACH MONTH AT THE VO-TECH CENTER

President Gary Dawes is the newest pastor at Adrian's United Methodist Church, and one of the newest Board Members elected within our affiliate as of June, 2006. He and his wife of 33 years, Barb, live in Adrian. Together they have two married children and one grandchild. Gary has been involved with various Habitat for Humanity affiliates since 1986.
VP Kevin Brown lives in Adrian with his wife, Jaina, and is an instructor at LISD's Tech Center. He and his Residential Building students from the LISD Tech Center have completed HFHLC House #31 on Ormsby Street in May, 2006, House #32 on Church Street in May of 2007 and House #34 on Frank Street in May, 2008. Kevin was key in reestablishing the working relationship between the LISD Tech Center and our affiliate, and he and his students continue to do an awesome job. He was chosen as the LISD Tech Center Instructor of the Year for 2008.
Secretary Lyn Marks also serves on the Family Support Committee and is a member of the Lenawee Chamber. She and her husband, Denny, own and operate Carpet One and are great supporters of HFHLC's projects.
Treasurer Penelope (Penny) Starr Penny is the newest member of the Habitat board and brings 20 years of experience in the business and accounting fields, working for Deloitte & Touche , Wacker Chemical Corporation and now for EOTECH in Ann Arbor. Penny's initial volunteer experience with Habitat came as a result of a class requirement during her graduate program at MSU. Penny worked with our local affiliate to fulfill that requirement. During that time, Penny became hooked and to our good fortune has continued her involvement with Habitat. Penny lives in Tecumseh and has three college-aged children.
Executive Director Dick Drabek oversees operations at the HFHLC affiliate and ReStore . He is a retired Navy officer and a retired UARCO administrator. Dick has served our affiliate as E.D. for over ten years. He and his wife, Sandy, are dedicated to the HFHLC mission and attend various workshops to further their cause. |

- Craig Baumann is the Volunteer Coordinator for our affiliate. He and his wife have lived in Adrian for nearly 30 years. Craig has two daughters and 7 grandchildren. Since retiring in 2003, Craig has been involved in bowling, card-playing and spending time with his grandchildren. Craig joined the Board in 2006 and volunteers frequently when there are odd jobs to be done.
- Kevin Brown, Chair of Construction/Site Selection, lives in Adrian with his wife, Jaina, and is an instructor at LISD's VoTech Center. He and his Building Trades students from Vo-Tech completed HFHLC House #31 on Ormsby Street in May, 2006, and House #32 on Church Street in May of 2007. Kevin was key in reestablishing the working relationship between VoTech and our affiliate, and he and his students continue to do an awesome job.
- Lisa Feltman joined the HFHLC Board in June, 2006 and currently serves on the Family Selection Committee. She and her husband have lived in Adrian for over 20 years, and together they have five children. Lisa is the Foster Care Coordinator at Family Counseling and Children's Services, and is finishing up her Master's of Social Work degree. Lisa also serves the Board of Lighthouse Inn as their secretary.

- John Kottke, Church Relations Chair, and his wife are natives of the area having both graduated from Adrian High. After retiring as a meteorologist from the National Weather Service, John attended Seminary and was ordained in United Church of Christ in 2005. John joined our Board in June, 2006.
- Mark Lenz joined the board in 2007. Mark first became a Habitat volunteer in the 1980s while living with his family in Nevada. A transplant to SE Michigan from Nevada, Mark brings a wry sense of humor to our board, while at the same time displaying a quiet passion for making the world a better place. His day job as editor of the Daily Telegram in Adrian keeps him busy. Mark is proud of his two daughters whom he describes as "wonderful".
- Kathleen McCrate, Finance Committee Chair, is the VP of Risk Management for United Bancorp, the parent company of United Bank and Trust. She has lived in Tecumseh and worked for UBAT for nearly 40 years. She is actively involved in her community having served with the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce, DDA, and various community fund drives. Kathy has been with our affiliate since 2006.
- Alison Prielipp, Family Selection Committee, joined our board in 2007, and brought a wealth of personal and professional experience in human services working with families to assist them become more self-sufficient. She also brought a great deal of volunteer experience to the board in similar areas. Alison currently works for the Community Action Agency as the Community Resource Specialist. She has also worked with Blissfield Community Schools Lenawee's CHILD Program and at one time operated a day-care center. An avid volunteer as well, Alison expects to complete her bachelor's degree from Lourdes College in Social Science and Humanities. Alison lives in Blissfield with her husband and four children.
- Larry Schroeder joined our Board in late-2007. Larry's history with Habitat dates back to the early-1990's when he was the Curriculum Director at VoTech and helped orchestrate the partnership between the Building Trades students at VoTech and our affiliate. Larry left VoTech and that partnership dissolved until he returned as VoTech's Principal in 2003 when he helped revive the program. Larry is an Adrian Kiwanis member. He and his wife have four children and six grandchildren.
- Sister Mary Soher is a member of the Adrian Dominican Sisters. She currently serves on the Fund Development and PR Committees. Mary was born and raised in the western states of the US, and received her BA from Trinity University in Texas. She worked in TV/communications for many years before joining the Adrian Dominican Congregation some ten years ago. From 1999 - 2005, Mary ministered at Barry University in Florida where the HFH Campus Chapter is very active in building homes. Mary joined our Board in 2005 and brought with her a renewed sense of membership!
- Helen Woodward, Family Selection and Family Support Committees, has been volunteering with HFHLC since the late 1990's. She joined the Board in 2004. A retired Blissfield farmer, this 80-year-old spitfire helped write a grant to Thrivent requesting $10,000 for our 2005 Blissfield project, and she could be seen at the Blissfield building sites nearly every day during construction. Helen is the mother of 5, grandmother of 9, and great-grandmother of 5.

- Laura Alcock serves the HFHLC office as Financial Assistant and works closely with the Board treasurer. Laura has been balancing the books for our affiliate since 2004, and she is also in charge of keeping the records straight at the ReStore. Laura and her husband, Don, live in Sand Creek. They have five children and ten grandchildren.
- Liz Shawl joined the office staff in 2007. She previously worked for the local prosecutor's office and is excited to be onboard with Habitat. Liz, her husband and two children live in Adrian.
